Small Business and Over Regulation
Over regulation of small business is so intense it is getting hard to make a buck.
For my example of the type of over regulation in small business, which turns the American Dream into an American Nightmare, I will use a simple business like a car wash. Partly because I am in the Car Washing Industry and partly because I am very familiar with all the crazy rules. We could pick any business for this topic since over regulation is so common place like Death and Taxes that it is expected. However it is not expected by the new entrant to a business and tends to double and triple the capital costs to start a business often putting the new owners in such financial hardship with unexpected initial expenses that they are doomed from the start. Which even if you believe in free enterprise in that you are allowed to amass whatever you can thru people voting with their dollar for whatever it is you sell and that with this great privilege you are also allowed to fail and lose all your money. Which is a known quantity. But are we in essence setting people up to fail? And if so why? And if so why have small business loans which are guaranteed by the tax payer if in fact most of these loans will go bad due to lack of knowledge and over regulations?
Here are just some of the things we must worry about when setting up a car wash, we will also pick a California Location to show how ridiculous it can actually get since most policies in CA tend to work themselves across the country and find themselves in the most interesting of reality based Midwestern towns:
Over Regulation in the Car Wash Industry (Industry Threatened by Regulatory Bureaucracy)
Over regulation in Car Wash industry: Car Washes and Government regulations are a sign that the car wash industry has fully matured. But also realize that most all industries have there own set of ridiculous regulations from a multitude of agencies. It really is quite sickening if you think about it. There is nothing Free about Free Enterprise in a market with non-reality based rules, which keep growing every year, until an industry or entire market sector goes stagnant.
Now a fixed site car wash in California has to deal with OSHA, EPA, DOT, IRS and things like SARA, RCRA, HazCom, VOC, MSDS. There are more than 100 different agencies that the owner of a car wash has to deal with. Here are just some of the necessary permits needed; Burglar Alarm Permit, Building and construction Permit, Occupation Permit, Conditional Use Permit, fire Protection Permit, Hazardous Materials Permit, Generator treatment permit, Underground storage tank permit, Accidental release prevention permit, Above ground tank permits, Land-use permit, Storage Tank Permit, Underground tank monitoring plan, SB198 Safety Plan, Zoning Approval, Landscape Authorization permit, noise Permit, Industrial water discharge permit, Business Personal Property County license, Fictitious name Filing, Public Health Permit, Weights and Measures permit if gas is sold, Cradle to grave form on all chemicals that are classifiable, Waste management Plan, Certificate of Disclosure of hazardous Substances and Plan, as well as other things like a Corporations number, Tax ID Number, OSHA plan, I'll stop here, but they don't.
You still think that things are reality based that some how this helps people? Not hardly, because we as business owners must continually hike up prices and in the end it is the consumer who pays.

3.5 Million People And A Possible UK Home Business Opportunity
Has this ever happened to you... 'John, you have a lot of mail this morning dear'. Stunned as a goldfish you walk over to the kitchen table and pick up the envelopes. Each one is a quality envelope that has an address label with your name on it. You flick through them and the labels are more or less identical. You open one, then another and you can then start to feel what the others are about. More UK home business opportunity!
Image is Everything - Secrets to Cleaning Car Fleets
A recent survey indicated that clean Taxi Cabs Fleets have higher tip rates and repeat customers. How do you wash a taxicab? You do them four at a time and you go up and over and up and over when you are drying them. If they have a little taxi cab sign, dry that last. But you do the rest of the car the way you do a regular car. The only difference is you are going to spray three, four, five, sometimes six cars at a time. Then another crewmember is going to follow behind you and do all the windows really well. You do a quick vacuum with a taxicab. Seriously, you do not want to be in that taxicab for more then a minute or a minute and a half. Now most taxicabs are usually scratched and they look like crap. This is something you are going to have to deal with. This is just the way they are going to look which is good for you because they are not expecting a perfect job. They just want them to look clean because they have their logo on them. Taxi companies are very low budget operations and low cost will get you the account. Some taxicabs are owned by independent contractors. You will need to charge more since the volume is not there. Staging areas at big airports are a good place to find lots of taxicabs.

Financial Strategies for a Mobile Car Wash Business Plan

Bankers and Investors alike will want to see that you have a well thought out business plan to insure your start-up goes successfully. Below you will find a sample mobile car wash strategic financial strategies section for a business plan. I recommend that you print this out and modify it to best fit your over all plan and then once you have a good rough draft think on it for a few days and add in your additional costs and thoughts or insights. Then type it up and use it in your over all business plan so that you can get the funding necessary for a success start-up either thru a loan or investor partner. This sample is written from the perspective of a franchisee, which is part of a larger franchise company. If you are to be an independent business your plan may slightly vary somewhat.
How to Promote Yourself to Small Business Riches
You've heard it before; we're living in an information age. The business world is no longer driven by tangible products but on information and ideas. Internet based companies or other companies that use the Internet as an integral marketing tool that don't tap into information-based products or services could soon find themselves without customers or with lackluster sales.

Pressure Washing and Hospital Accounts
Most pressure washing companies never look into some of the best niche markets. One, which you may not have thought about is Hospitals and if you run a pressure washing company it can mean good steady income. When contract cleaning you must figure out the needs of your clientele; Hospitals have special needs, which are not common to other businesses and if you are careful to address these needs you will be well served. One recommendation I give pressure washing companies is to bundle services. This does two things; 1.) It prevents price wars with low bidders or first time entrants into the industry and 2.) It enhances the monthly invoices for services rendered.
Expanding A Mobile Car Wash Business
What is the best time to expand a mobile car wash business? If everything were perfect and you could choose the best time to buy a new mobile car wash rig, you should buy it in April and have it running by the 20th of May. If you have 1.5 times the business of your first unit, then you automatically have enough business for one-half of a second truck, van or trailer unit combination. In June, the seasonal increase would take care of the rest. That is the simplest way. If you buy an additional truck in November and it is ready by the 20th of December, you will have holidays and rain. Unless you have a huge industrial account base, we don't recommend this to you.

Yeah, It IS Lonely At the Top
Sometimes when you run a business you feel as lonely as the Maytag repairman. Loneliness and isolation are very common problems for business owners. You sit at your desk wondering if you are steering your business in the right direction. When faced with a decision, you worry that you may be making a mistake or missing an opportunity. You get frustrated because you have no one to talk to about all the problems and decisions you have to make everyday. When you have a confidential matter you can't discuss with employees, family members, or friends you suffer in silence because you don't have an advisor to turn to. And unless your spouse is an MBA, he or she probably doesn't have the answers you need either.
