Wildlife safari at Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary
September 4, 2008 – 4:54 pm
Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary is one of the best places to go if you vist Kerala. Now there are more reasons to visit Parambikulam . 2 days ago, on the 2nd of September 2008, the santuary launched a Wildlife safari service for the tourists. There are 4 Tempo traveller vehicles which can carry a total of 44 tourists.
It was noticed that considerable disturbances were caused to the sanctuary because of the day visitors and their vehicles. So for the better management of the sanctuary private vehicles will be stopped plying in to the sanctuary from 2nd September, 2008 onwards.
The safari will take about 3 hours and it will pass through the following areas of Parambikula wildlife sanctuary .
- Aanapaadi
- Thoonakadavu Lake
- Thoonakadavu Dam
- Kammimara Teak
- Dam View point
- Spice world
- Parambikulam Dam
- Eco Shop
They are charging Rupees 140 per person for the Wildlife safari.
Advances booking facilty is also available, if you can contact in the below given adddress:
Eco Cars Centre, Aanapaadi, Thoonakadavu.P.O, Via Pollachi, Palakkad District , Kerala
Phone: 04253 245025 ; 04253- 245005
Email: wildlifewarden (at ) parambikulam.org
( please replace (at) with the @ sign while sending email )
The project is a joint venture of Kerala Forest Department, Tourism Department and the seven Eco Development Committees performing under Parambikkulam Forest Development Agency.
The only concern for us here is, the choice of vehicles, instead of this tempo traveller, with its very small windows, they should have opted for any other vehicles which can give the tourists a better view of the forest around them.
KeralaClick.com wish all the very best for this new venture.

Visit to Palaka Paandi Waterfalls of Kollengode
August 11, 2008 – 5:48 pm
Visit to Palaka Paandi Waterfalls,Kollengode, Palakad ( Kerala, India )
We reached this small town called Kollengode by 1 pm.
Kollengode is 23 km away from the district Headquarters Palakkad and 52 km away from Trichur.
and after lunch, we continued our journey though Pollachi Road. After going just a bit over a kilometer from Kollengode junction, we took a right turn and after some 6 km we reached this place after this point we should travel 2 km by foot to reach the Palakapaandi Waterfalls.
You can see a small hut there occupied by a local farmer and his family, you can ask permission to park your vehicle there and then take a walk to Palakapaandi Waterfalls site. If it is a monsoon season, you have to cross several very small streams to reach there.
Please do not encourage kids below 12 years to travel to this place. This is not a place for them. This 2 kilometer walking route is going through Mango Plantations owned by private parties and please do not try to get any mangoes and trespass their boundaries, just take the walk enjoying the pleasant surroundings.
Before reaching the actual waterfalls you can see the construction works are being done there, in connection with the Palakapaandi Project. The project is to take the water from the foothills to a dam that is 3 km away from this site and use it for navigational purposes.
The waterfall is very good one. We enjoyed the falls and climbed some distance up along side the falls and got so very rare views of the Palakkad Gap from over there.
